MCAT Question A Day - 5/4/13 - Answer!
The probability of parents having a daughter is 50%. What is the probability of parents having three daughters in a row?
A. 1/2
B. 1/4
C. 1/8
D. 1/16
The correct answer is (C). The chance of having a daughter is 1/2, but the chance of having two daughters in a row as independent events is 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4. Similarly, the chance of having three daughters in a row would be 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/8.
