Water has an index of refraction of 1.33. If a plane mirror is submerged in water, what is the angle of reflection if light strikes the mirror at an angle of 30°?
A. Less than 30° because the index of refraction for water is 1.33
B. Exactly 30°
C. More than 30° because the index of refraction for water is 1.33
D. No light is reflected because 30° is the critical angle for water
The correct answer is (B). The law of reflection is independent of the medium involved. The angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence for normal reflection.
