MCAT Question A Day - 3/29/14 - Answer!
Fluid moves with constant speed and no turbulence through a tube of uniform diameter as illustrated below. At which point is the pressure lowest?
A. A
B. B
C. C
D. D
The correct answer is (D). For fluids, Bernoulli’s equation relates the pressure, the kinetic energy (speed), and the potential energy (elevation), for any point in the fluid. Since the velocity is constant, P will vary with the elevation only. The greater the elevation, the lower the value of P.
