Practice MCAT Question - Q124 - Answer!

Which cells are most important in the rapid and extensive secondary immune response when contact with a foreign antigen is made a second time?

A.  Memory cells
B.  Macrophages
C.  Plasma cells
D.  Suppressor T-cells

The correct answer is (A). Memory B-cells and memory T-cells are cloned during first contact with the antigens of an “invading organism.” Afterwards, they are found in the circulation and lymph nodes where they provide the body with long-term protection. If a second contact with the same foreign antigen is made, the response is rapid, extensive, and usually effective. Suppressor T-cells prevent overreaction by the immune system.
